The firm

You'll work with a partner, not a caseload.

Four attorneys, deliberately. We turn away more matters than we take, because the alternative is the thing everybody hates about lawyers — never being able to reach the one whose name is on the door.

EH Eleanor Hale, founding partner

Eleanor Hale

Founding partner · Personal injury

Eleanor spent six years defending insurance companies before deciding she'd rather be on the other side of it. That experience is the reason she can usually tell you, in the first meeting, what an adjuster is going to offer and why — and what it would take to move them.

She has tried more than sixty cases to verdict, which matters less for the trials themselves than for what it does to negotiations. Insurers know which firms will actually go to court.

MC Marcus Crest, founding partner

Marcus Crest

Founding partner · Business & commercial

Marcus represents the businesses that are too small to keep a lawyer on staff and too exposed to go without one — contractors, restaurant groups, family manufacturers, and a surprising number of veterinary practices.

His view is that most commercial litigation is a failure of drafting two years earlier, so a lot of his work is unglamorous: operating agreements, buy-sell provisions, and the clause that decides what happens when two partners stop speaking to each other.

PN Priya Nandan, partner

Priya Nandan

Partner · Estate planning & probate

Priya joined the firm in 2009 and made partner in 2016. She handles the work people put off for a decade and then need urgently: wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and the probate that follows when none of that was done.

She is unusually good at the conversation nobody wants to have — the one where a family has to decide who makes medical decisions, and who is quietly not going to be named executor. Most of her clients come from referrals by other clients' children.

DO Daniel Okafor, associate

Daniel Okafor

Associate · Litigation

Daniel handles discovery, motion practice, and the parts of a case where losing is usually a matter of missing something. He clerked for a state appellate judge before joining the firm, which shows up in how carefully the firm's briefs are written.

He is also the attorney most likely to actually pick up the phone on a Tuesday afternoon, which clients tend to appreciate more than they expected to.

How we work

Four commitments, in writing.

These are in our engagement letter, not just on a website. If we break one, say so and we'll make it right.

01

Your calls get returned

Same business day, by the attorney handling your matter — not a paralegal reading from a file note.

02

You get plain English

Every letter we send you gets a one-paragraph summary at the top explaining what it means and what happens next.

03

No surprise invoices

Hourly matters get a monthly statement and a call before we exceed any estimate. Contingency matters cost you nothing unless we recover.

04

We'll tell you to walk away

If the math on your case doesn't work, we'd rather lose the fee than take money to chase something that won't pay off.

What it costs

How we charge, before you ask.

Legal fees are the single most uncomfortable part of hiring a lawyer, so here they are up front. Your engagement letter will state the exact terms for your matter.

Personal injury

33⅓% contingency

Nothing unless we recover, and 33⅓% of the recovery if we do — rising to 40% only if the case is filed and goes to trial. Case costs are advanced by us and reimbursed from the recovery; if there's no recovery, you owe nothing.

Estate planning

$950–$3,200 flat

Flat fees, quoted before we start. A simple will package runs $950; a revocable trust with the supporting documents runs $2,400–$3,200 depending on complexity. Probate administration is quoted after we see the estate.

Business matters

$285/hr or flat

Formation, contract review, and other predictable work is quoted flat. Litigation and open-ended advisory work is hourly, with a monthly cap you approve in advance. Retainers start at $2,500.

No obligation

The first conversation is free.

Thirty minutes with the attorney who would actually handle your matter. If we're not the right firm for it, we'll tell you who is.
